Cameroon-Morocco: Commercial Showroom Envisaged in Douala

The aim is to market agricultural and finished products in the two countries.

The governments of Cameroon and the Kingdom of Morocco have for some time been making arrangements in view of establishing strong economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries. Arrangements entered high gear over the weekend with sensitisation of representatives of some local enterprises on the new bilateral cooperation strategy in Bonanjo, Douala.

According to the arrangement, a showroom will be constructed in Douala, Cameroon, and another in Casablanca, Morocco. The Cameroonian showroom in Casablanca will showcase mainly agricultural products like robber, palm oil, banana, wood, coffee, cocoa, tea, aluminium and fruits. On the other hand, the Moroccan showroom to be established in Douala will be a centre for the marketing of mostly manufactured products like cement, papers, etc.

The objective is to strengthen trade ties in the domain of economy between the two countries. Already, Morocco has a good representation in Cameroon, visible through its CIMAF cement factory in Bonaberi, La Camerounaise des Eaux and banks, among others.

According to the Vice President of the Cameroon Chambers of Commerce (CCIMA) in Douala, Eoko Mukete, a Cameroonian delegation consisting of the Ministry of External Relations, Ministry of Trade and the President of CCIMA will in a few weeks finalise the arrangement through signatures with the Association of Moroccan  Exporters in Casablanca.

“Such cooperation seeks to prioritise enterprises of both countries, particularly private enterprises in which partnerships are strongly encouraged,” Mbarga Emmanuel, Sub-director in charge of Regional and International Trade Relations in the Ministry of Trade, said.

An important objective served by the showrooms is the availability of all specific agricultural and manufactured products from Cameroon and Morocco before customers close to their place. As such, the customer gets a chance to see the products on his/her own, and feel it and then make a decision if that specific product suits his appetite, needs and budget.

Another purpose that the commercial showroom serves is that it bridges the gap between the enterprise and the customer. They are provided with a good bit of hospitality and every effort is made to ensure that the customer develops a positive impression about the country's products and of the enterprise itself. This actually could later on translate into enhancing and broadening the enterprise’s market share.
