The Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission on February 27, 2014, had discussions at the Ministry of External Relations.
Preparations are heating up for the meeting of Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of Defence Staff of member countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission on security to take place in Yaounde, Cameroon on March 17 and 18, 2014.
The Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, Imram Sanusi Abdulahi yesterday, February 27, 2014 discussed the level of Cameroon’s preparedness for the meeting with the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargou.
The meeting came after the Commission’s delegation also met with Cameroon’s Minister of Defence, the Executive Secretary said. He said the Commission has the responsibility to encourage and ensure development in the area and that cannot be a reality without security.
The Yaounde security meeting was recommended by the Heads of State of the Lake Chad Basin Commission member countries during their summit in 2012. The Defence Ministers and Chiefs of Defence Staff have the assignment to finalise the new mandate of the Multi-national Joint Force for the Security of Lake Chad area.
