Chief Namata Elangwe Laid to Rest

Hundreds of CDC workers made the journey to Kumba on March 5, 2014 to say adieu to their late boss.

Chief Tata Okiah Wa Bakundu Henry Namata Elangwe, 82, who passed unto eternity last March 5, 2014 has been laid to rest in his Bakundu Palace at Kake I Bongwana in Kumba. He was former West Cameroon Vice Prime Minister in charge of Finance and later became Minister of Mines and Energy in 1972 under Cameroon’s first President, Amadou Ahidjo. Until his death, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC).

During the Presbyterian Church service to mark Elangwe’s funeral in Kake I on March 8,  Reverend Nyansako-ni-Nku, Emeritus Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), delivered the funeral oration on the theme “Teach us, Lord, to number our Day” drawing from biblical Ecclesiastes and Thessalonians.

Ten eulogies were delivered on the occasion from different delegations, all tailored to depict Elangwe’s life on earth. Mr. Ebong Ngole, Politburo member of the ruling CPDM and chief envoy of the party’s central committee, spoke on behalf of the party’s chief scribe.

A royal eulogy from Fon Fontem Njifua, current President of South West Chiefs’ Conference to which the deceased belonged, was presented by Chief Isoh Etoh of Ekondo Titi. The late Elangwe was described by the General Manager of the CDC as a man with formidable sense of duty, a great patriot, and a unifier. He became CDC Board Chair from 2003 until his death. Workers of the CDC inundated the late Chief’s palace to say adieu to their boss.
