Bonambela Development Under Evaluation

Sawa people of the community association met in General assembly on Saturday in Akwa.

Considering that the Bonambela Township is the largest and highly populated community in the Wouri Division (20 villages covering Douala I and Douala V), developing it is therefore of great necessity also to the city. Fritz Ntone Ntone, President of the Economic and Social Committee of Bonambela (CESB) (community development association) told Cameroon Tribune “we had a favourable and honourable balance sheet of activities during the decade”.

During 10 years of existence, the community development association has rendered financial support to women and young girls to start up income generating activities and help in the offer of some school needs to youths through small financial credits meant to develop the area. About 2,500 school children have benefited from the scheme. Inhabitants have been mobilised to participate massively in the development of the Akwa Township, promote the practice of its culture, develop an entrepreneurial spirit as well as activities to encourage financial savings, promote hygiene, health and solidarity of all inhabitants, reinforce civic education, promote women and protect young girls, orientate youths towards an achieving future, among other things.

The association deemed it necessary to come up with a balance sheet of its activities and functioning 10 years after, define future strategies in order to strengthen social progress of all members of the Bonambela community and to give a new face to challenges of the community. CESB members met in a General Assembly at the Salle des fete in Akwa, Douala, on Saturday, March 29. It adopted a working plan for the next three years.

These include meeting in the days ahead to evaluate activities of traditional chiefs of the Township and make recommendations, organising the10th anniversary of the association, holding the 10th Back-to-school Forum in August, giving a go to the functioning of the Mutual Health Association created in 2008, creating two cash desks for financial support towards financing income generating micro-projects for women and girls in the community, publishing the quarterly newsletter called “Muendi”, creating and supporting many more associations with specific objectives.

CESB was created in 2004, under the initiative of Din Dika Akwa III.
