The operation “Let Us Help” officially took off over the weekend in Yaounde.

A national campaign to collect funds and assist refugees from the Central African Republic located at the Eastern Region of Cameroon took place on Saturday March 29 at the Tsinga Islamic Complex in Yaounde.

The operation, which is spearheaded by a group of Islamic Associations and non-governmental organisations in Cameroon, is aimed at coming together to give humanitarian and moral assistances to Central African Refugees that are based in the East Region as well as in Garou-Boulai and Kentzou. During the event, the audience was presented a video tape of the situation of refugees in the Eastern Region. According to the Vice-President of the League of Muslim Elites of Cameroon, Sitan Mouhammadou Kongnyuy, during their last visit to the refugees’ site, so many of them were staying under trees and each day more refugees keep entering the site. He also added that a majority of them have wounds that need medical attention; they lack food, no sanitary situation and potable water.

As such, the group of Islamic associations have sensitised the community (Muslim and non-Muslim) on the situation of the refugees, presented images of what is in the field and opened the fund raising operation that will enable them fully be of help to these refugees. Through the money collected the associations will look at the health situation of these refugees since most of them are under very critical health conditions. They will also provide food, housing facilities and most importantly moral support to these refugees who are already traumatised by the instability taking place in their country. The solidarity fund is a free-will contribution which is not limited to only Muslim but to anyone who wants to assist the refugees in the Eastern Region.
