Wum Offers Land For Agriculture Institute

Governor Lele Lafrique has visited the land to size-up infrastructure for the project.

On the strength of instructions from the government that land should be prospected in Bui, Momo and Menchum Divisions to host the would-be Higher Institute of Agriculture, the North West Development Authority, MIDENO, has proposed 50 hectares of land for the project in Wum.

North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique recently went sizing up the land which is part of the about 500 hectares initially covered by the defunct Wum Area Development Authority (WADA). On-the-Spot in Wum, the governor instructed local authorities to prepare a file covering the proposed land and available infrastructure to forward to Yaounde to help the Prime Minister, Head of Government, draw the lines on which between Menchum, Bui and Momo Divisions will host the institute. Adolphe Lele Lafrique also went discovering infrastructure left by the defunct WADA.

In effect, the General Manager of MIDENO, John B, Ndeh told the Governor that the demise of WADA gave birth to the Menchum Rural Development Project (MIRUDEP) which later disappeared with the creation of the Division for Maintenance of Infrastructure and Rural Development and MIDENO ensuring superintendence and coordinating the production of quality maize seeds to serve the farming population of the North West region.

The Head of the Division for Maintenance, Tamfu Richard, told CT about MIDENO’s efforts to rehabilitate the infrastructure which cover mechanical workshops, an equipment pool, tractors, front-end loader, excavator, cleaner, maize sheller and buildings that harboured the then West Cameroon Wum Farm Institute under WADA.
