CDU Mobilises For 2018 Elections

Party officials are going back to the field to implement strategies adopted in Yaounde on April 19, 2014.

The Cameroon Democratic Union, CDU has adopted strategies to overhaul party activities, ensure effective presence on the field through  proper nationwide implantation in preparation for the presidential, senatorial, legislative and municipal elections expected in 2018. The strategies and plan of action were adopted during the CDU national executive council meeting that took place at the party headquarters in Yaounde from April 17 to 19, 2014.

The CDU National President, Dr Adamou Ndam Njoya during the closing session of the meeting reminded party officials of their “Operation 2018” which consists in taking stock of the party’s participation in the previous elections and charting the way forward for victory in the 2018 elections. He said the party was determined to invest candidates in all Divisions of Cameroon. Members of the Working Group on elections during the executive committee session presented a litany of problems that hampered the party’s victory in previous elections and made recommendations for future elections.

The President called for the respect of party texts, instructions, proper organization and information feedback from the grassroots to hierarchy. “Let us be conscious of the work we have to do. Different structures of the party have plans of action and programmes that must be followed up on the field,” Dr Adamou Ndam Njoya said.

In the days ahead, proper implantation of the CDU will start. The first phase has to do with the head count of party supporters who must possess the new membership card. The cards were presented during the event and officials started buying them as a mark of commitment. The head count will pave the way for the re-organisation of grassroots structures of the CDU. The re-organisation process will enable the putting in place of party officials who will lead the CDU in the different elections of 2018.

The CDU officials left Yaounde properly armed for the task ahead as they participated at the 12th edition of the party’s Republican Days of Reflection and Debate on the theme, Elite in the society.” They also participated in a forum organized by the African School of Ethics on the theme, “Imperative of lasting peace: reviewing the Constitution and Electoral Code in view of amending them.” They will have to apply the knowledge acquired on the field to be agents of development, mobilize and educate the society to adhere to the party ideologies.
