Late Obouh Fegue and two others are being accused of complicity in the embezzlement of public funds.
The case pitting the Ministry of Finance against the former and late General Manager of the Cameroon Water Utility Company; La Société Nationale Des Eaux du Cameroon, SNEC, Clement Obouh Fegue and co-accused; Ekegue Telesphore and Enyegue Nkolo Jacques, held at the Special Criminal Court in Yaounde for the first time on April 23? 2014. Heading the panel of judges hearing the case was the President of the Special Criminal Court, Mr Justice Yap Abdou. He was assisted by Mr Justice Michel Jean-Claude Onana and Mr Justice Mathias Nyoh.
Evidently, the principal accused in the case, late Clement Obouh Fegue was not present in court because after passing away on March 1st, this year, he was buried on March 8 at Akok-Bekoé, his native village situated at the Mefou-et-Akono Divison of the Centre Region. Also, one of the accused Ekegue Telesphore was absent from last Wednesday court session. Only Enyegue Nkolo Jacques was present in court alongside his defence counsel, Barrister Abah Fouda.
The court clerk read the case out, in which Enyegue Nkolo Jacques is accused of being an accomplice in the misappropriation of public funds worth over FCFA one billion given to a company called ELCADIS by the Ministry of Finance. The accused pleaded not guilty and said he knows nothing about the crime. The defence lawyer said he was not aware of what his client is being accused of and that they had no witness to defend their case.
The session could not continue because the Legal Department and the Civil Party witnesses were absent. Thus, Mr Justice Yap Abdou adjourned the case to May 22 to enable the State to present its witnesses. Debates in the case will effectively begin on May 22 at the Special Criminal Court when State witnesses will begin testifying.
