The ceremony will be co-presided by Issa Hayatou and Sepp Blatter.

The CAF Centre of Excellence in Mbankomo-Yaounde will be inaugurated today by the president of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou and the president of the world football governing body, Sepp Blatter. Football lovers from across the world comprising CAF executive committee members started pouring into the capital city-Yaounde over the weekend to attend the event that is going to constitute a milestone in African football history. Mbankomo will be the first of three such centres constructed by CAF to be inaugurated.

Similar centres in exist in Addis Ababa-Ethiopia and Dakar-Senegal and shall also be inaugurated in the coming months. The infrastructural jewel built on six of the 23 hectares of land offered by government for the project, comprises three football fields (two synthetic turf and natural grass), spaces for basketball, handball, volleyball, an Olympic swimming pool, a gymnasium equipped with the state of the art fitness equipment, a conference room with 110 seats, four meeting rooms with quality sound equipment seating up-to 30 persons each for technical preparation of players, seminars and workshops, a restaurant with seating capacity of 104 seats, a terrace bar and luxurious rooms.

To ensure uninterrupted operations, Mbankomo has autonomous electric power, with three generators and a treatment plant with a storage capacity of 120,000 liters. The, construction of the first phase of the Centre of Excellence Mbankomo was completed in 2009. It went operational in 2010 and has played host to several CAF training and development workshops and seminars, served as a retreat for Cameroon's Indomitable Lions and also as a training base for the Stallions of Burkina Faso ahead of 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
