A workshop on the general inventory on cultural heritage opened in Yaounde on May 5, 2014.

A general inventory of cultural patrimony is a major priority of the State. It enables, on one hand, a better understanding of the tangible and intangible elements which make up the cultural patrimony, and on the other hand, to guide government action on the national scene. It is in this light that a five-day training workshop on the General Inventory of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage opened yesterday May 5, 2014 in Yaounde.

Speaking at the opening, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna said a mastery of the process of inventory and implementation of a permanent general inventory policy is more pertinent and calls for joint efforts. She called on participants to work hand-in-glove and come out with concrete proposals which will serve as an important start for the implementation of cultural patrimony which will be permanent in conformity with the Law of April 2013 fixing cultural patrimony in Cameroon.

The objective of the workshop is, on the one hand, to ensure a good management of cultural patrimony in view of ensuring its contribution to the national economy and, on the other hand, to make culture the foundation of development in the country. The workshop will enable the participants to acquire new techniques to master the methods of information gathering as well as being able to pass on the information on the field.
