Abduction of Nigerian School Girls Discussed at MINREX

External Relations Minister had separate discussions with the Chargé d’Affaires in the U.S Embassy and the Ambassador of Chad on May 9, 2014.

The Chargé d’Affaires in the Embassy of the United States of America to Cameroon, Gregory D. Thome says his government is committed to helping the Nigerian government to recover the 276 school girls abducted by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram in mid April 2014.  He was speaking at the Ministry of External Relations on May 9, 2014 after discussions with Minister Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo.

“I conveyed to the Minister that President Barack Obama is personally very interested and deeply offended by this terrible act that Boko Haram had done,” Gregory D. Thome told reporters. The audience was an occasion for the U.S.A. government to thank Cameroon for the significant efforts to support in finding the girls. “We discussed the fact that there is really no evidence that the girls are in Cameroon,” the U.S. diplomat stated and said Cameroon and his government could collaborate in helping Nigeria. Minister Moukoko and his guest also discussed the situation in Ukraine.

The Ambassador of Chad to Cameroon, Yoossem-Kontou Noudjiamlao who doubles as the Dean of the diplomatic corps in the country was the first to have discussions with the Minister of External Relations. He disclosed to reporters that he came to congratulate the government of Cameroon on the brilliant organisation of the Ministerial meeting of the fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, TICAD V, which took place in Yaounde on May 4 to 5, 2014. Besides the TICAD V Ministerial meeting, the Chadian diplomat and Moukoko Mbonjo used the audience to discuss bilateral relations and the need for peace and security to return to the conflict-ridden Central African Republic.
