The sum of FCFA 500,000 was shared to some 15 needy, but deserving students to cover their tuition fees for the next academic year.

As students wrapped up the 2013 academic year in Cameroon over the weekend, some 15 students of the Government Bilingual High School Mutengene wore broad smiles Saturday May 24, as they have been granted scholarships for the 2014/2015 academic year by a Mutengene-based civil society organization, United Action for the Underprivileged Foundation.

The 15 students drawn from both the Anglophone and Francophone sections of the school ranging from Form One to Lower Sixth were identified as orphans and needy students who can barely afford to pay their fees or even buy books. 

Handing over the envelops, the Coordinator of the Foundation, Honourable Fritz Ngeka Etoke, just like the Supervisor of the United Action for the Underprivileged Foundation, Miller Sarah said the gesture was in response to the request by the management of the school for assistance to the orphans and vulnerable students.  While encouraging the beneficiaries and other students of the college, Hon. Ngeka Etoke who is also Member of Parliament for Fako East constituency promised to do more for the institution.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Government Bilingual High School Mutengene, Joseph Macaulay, on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Foundation for prompt response to their cry stating that their presence is eloquent testimony that investing in a child is making the world a better place. He said the gesture brings hope to the destitute students and promised to ensure that the money is used for the purpose it is intended for.

The beneficiaries received scholarship forms which they immediately took to the school’s bursar for the school fees which the Coordinator of the Foundation said will be paid directly to the school insisting that he is not giving physical cash to them.
