70,000 Candidates For 2014 GCE In North West

Serenity reigns in the 202 accommodation centres in the seven divisions of the region.

Day One of the written part of Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Examination in the North West Region on May 26 recorded no problems. It is on record that this 2014, the region sent in 66,629 candidates both in the Ordinary and Advanced Level.  These students are writing in some 202 centres in the seven divisions of the region.

In a sojourn in some schools Monday morning, CT realised that the examinations kicked off at 8 am as expected. Before then, some students had to verify their names and locate their classes as per their candidate number.

At 8 am when the examination started, the ‘O’ level students were writing Literature in English while their counterparts writing the ‘A’ level were sitting in for Economics. CT equally observed that the examinations were going on as per standard norms and regulations.

At Presbyterian Secondary School (PSS) Azire, the Chief of Centre, Pen Tange Lydia, explained that all the students were on time and there were no absences. She said that they were working as per the rules put in place by the GCE board explaining that they had not registered any abnormality.

The GCE Board’s special envoy to the North West Region, Michael Ngogomo, said before the examinations, they held a meeting with all the superintendents giving them the instructions from the GCE Board. He said this year, the E- registration was reinforced as not all students used it. It also concerned teachers who applied to mark. He said so far there was calm and serenity in the regions as no cases of irregularities have been registered.
