Tatiana Carmine Exhibits Painting Knowhow

The Swiss painter who presented her works in Douala; had a working session with local artistes.

Music, dance and emotions are at the centre of the set of colourful paintings Tatiana Carmine exhibited at the Doual’Art Contemporary gallery in Bonanjo. Who else to fully express these elements if not women?

On the appealing and brightly coloured boards, their images express such meanings, with no need for further explanations. Titled “Sea-We,” arts lovers and curious visitors were presented with to her works from May 16 to 24. Mostly in groups, they are seen singing, dancing or expressing something with the use of body language.

During the official opening ceremony of Thursday May 16 evening, the decor was carefully set for onlookers to be able to help themselves out. From a set of individual and collective paintings, the first striking feature, particular to the art is the choice of colours. The following day, a second presentation was made.

This time around, the paintings included portraits of renowned Cameroonian and African musicians. Amongst them were internally acclaimed musicians like Manu Dibango, through Richard Bona; unto the new generation trio X-Maleya. During this time, the visitors were thrilled with live musical performance with locally-based singers mounting the stage.

Before saying quits, the painter undertook to transmit her knowhow. This was during a two-hour intensive work session with local artistes drawn from various fields. On Friday May 23, over 20 artistes converged on the Doual’Art premises for an educative session. The major highlight was the constitution of a list of the participants, in view of creating a platform better known in French as “Mains croisées.”

Having successfully carried out two projects in Benin, where she had worked, Tatiana Carmine intends to use this medium for the training, capacity building and above all the promotion of artistic endeavours among countries.

Though a European, Tatiana Carmine draws inspiration for her works from African origins, after discovery countries like Kenya, Mali, Benin and now Cameroon. For over 10 years, the artiste in her tours incorporates other artistic domains in her paintings, works towards transcending the boundaries in arts.
