Sopecam Recounts ‘The Lion’s Story’

The special publication duels on the performances of the lions in their seven participations at the final phase of the World Cup.

On the occasion of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Cameroon Tribune has published a special magazine titled “La Saga des lions” or “The Lion’s Story” retracing the history of Cameroon’s participation at the world football jamboree. The 130-page document revisits the high moments of Cameroon’s six participations at the final phase of the World Cup and throws a prospective look at their upcoming 7th participation in text and pictures.

The magazine comprises five majors parts titled as follows; introduction, Lions at the World Cup, missed opportunities, what squad for Brazil and analyses. The introduction opens with an editorial from the General Manager of SOPECAM followed by an in-depth presentation of each of the six past participations of Cameroon at the World soccer showpiece notably the fire baptism in 1982, the sensation in 1990, disillusionment in 1994, frustration in 1998, the missed opportunity of 2002, the 2010 scandal and evolutions in the jerseys of the Lions. There are also the thwarted dreams of 1986 and 2006 as well as some facts and figures of each campaign. Each segment comprises write-ups, testimonies of actors notably players, journalists and coaches as well as the scoops of the edition.

The magazine edited and published by SOPCAM is printed in colour on good quality paper and cost just FCFA 1500. The front page carries the pictures of some emblematic players of the national team like late Abega Theophile, Marc Vivien Foe, Roger Milla and Samuel Eto’o Fils as well as the photo of the world Cup trophy. The magazine can be got either from the SOPECAM head office in Yaounde or from your local news vendor.

It is worthy to note that the special publication comes to add to measures taken by the management of Cameroon Tribune for the exhaustive coverage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The newsroom has dispatched three reporters to give first hand reports on the unfolding of the competition in Brazil. They will be supported at home by a battery of reporters from the central desk and regional agencies who will be taking the pulse of the nation as we live the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
