This was during a cultural evening aimed at selling the country’s divers potentialities.
On the sideline of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the Ministry of Communication last Friday in Vitoria organized a cultural evening during which Cameroon’s rich cultural, sports and economic potentials were exhibited. The crowd pulling event presided at by the head of Cameroon delegation to the 2014 FIFA World cup, Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua, assisted by the Secretary of State for Culture in the State of Espirito Santo, Mauricio Silva, witnessed the screening of two documentaries, entertainment from Brazil’s ‘Negro Dance Group’ and a photos exhibition.
With presentation by Jean Lambert Nang, Director at the Ministry of Communication, the first documentary x-rayed the rich cultural diversity of Cameroon with the “Moninkim Dance” from Manyu Division on the limelight, touristic sites with the Waza National Park, Rhumsiki and Gashiga highlands as sites to visit at all cost. In sports, the documentary revived memories of the 1990 FIFA World cup during which Roger Milla’s Makossa dance marveled the World and the outstanding performances of the Indomitable Lions under the auspices of captain Samuele Eto’o, whose presence at the ceremony was highly appreciated. Economically, Cameroon was portrayed to the business gurus of Espirito Santo as a country with a favourable investment climate. The second documentary on the host town Vitoria focused on the hospitality of the people and their impeccable hotel infrastructure and urban road network.
To thank the people of Espirito Santo and Vitoria in particular, Minister Adoum Garoua praised the authorities for their willingness and warm welcome given to the Cameroonian delegation since their arrival. He said, apart from football that has brought the communities together, Brazil and Cameroon have a very long standing relationship linked by history. Flanked by Mbeng Martin, Cameroon’s Ambassador to Brazil, Minister Adoum Garoua extended President Paul Biya’s good will message to the Brazilian people, adding that as an emerging country, Cameroon will very much need the support of the Brazilian authorities and its people.
Prior to the Minister’s speech, the Secretary of State for Culture in the State of Vitoria graciously thanked Cameroon for the honour and choice of Vitoria as based for the 2014 World Cup. He re-iterated that even though Cameroon and Brazil will be playing against each other (today}, what is important is unity.
Cameroon’s female artist Kareyce Fotso and the Brazilian “Negro Dance Group” graced and paved the way for a photo exhibition that rounded-up the unprecedented occasion at the Espirito Santo Arts Museum.
