Senate Defines Boko Haram Combat Strategy

The Senate Bureau meeting that held on June 20, 2014, partly focused on supporting the fight against the Nigerian militants.

The members of the Bureau of the Senate have stated the determination of the House to contribute to the fight against Boko Haram  that has been attacking the population and defence forces in the northern part of the  country. This was one of the key issues discussed during the bureau meeting on June 20, 2014 chaired by the Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Senate President said they discussed the role of the Senators in the fight which consists in educating and creating awareness in the local population to forward information to competence authorities in charge of maintaining peace, order and security. He said that during the education mission, Senators would have to stress on the synergy with the population because the population is often the victims of attacks by Boko Haram.

Still concerning security, the Senate Bureau also discussed the situation in Cameroon’s eastern border, especially with the influx of refugees who are escaping the war in the Central African Republic. Concerning the internal affairs of the Senate, President Niat Njifenji said that they discussed issues related to the setting up of the Senate, especially the evolution of texts.  They equally discussed the treatment of Senators.

He said some questions were raised concerning the treatment but it emerged that some of the texts were in the course of application while others were waiting for more precision on their content. The ordinary Bureau of the Senate, the President said took place in a convivial atmosphere, stating that Senators are people who are aware of their responsibilities.
