Players Rating

As the Indomitable Lions bid-bye to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, we take a look at the individual performance of all the players who took part in yesterdays’ encounter against Brazil.

Charles Itandje: His outings gave some hope to the team. Even after conceding the first goal, he made two vital serves. Despite his acrobatic dive, he could not stop Brazil’s Neymar from aggravating score. Same during the second half, had the defense played compactly, he would not have conceded the last two goals.

Nicolas Nkoulou: As master of the defense and captain, “Nico” made several clearances that helped the Lions. Though he carries part of the blame for the Brazilian second goal, he was present in the match. His powerful drive at the last minutes of the game showed his great determination to lead the Lions to victory.

Joel Matip: He had a very difficult game at the centre back position with Brazilian Fred given him positional headache. But after the scoring the Lion’s first goal and lone goal in the competition, he gained confidence mapping and checking the Brazilian incursions. But his courage was not enough to stop the Brazilians from carrying the day.

Allan Nyom: Intelligent tackles during the early minutes of the game. But lack of composure cost the Lions dearly as the Brazilians concentrated play at the right half back flank. Though he did catch-up with a marvelous dribble and cross that led to the equalizer, he still failed several times to stop the Brazilians as all the goals came from the left flank.

Henri Bedimo: Coming from the bench after two matches seems to have played negatively on him as his first touch of the ball were not re-assuring. He tried fruitlessly to be part of the match, but looked heavy and less concentrated.

Stephane Mbia: He was destabilized from the beginning of the match, but gained steam as the encounter progress. Though he began the second half with a lot of determination, he lost many duels at the midfield and committed a fatal mistake at the…that led to the Brazilian 4th goal.

Enoh Eyong: He seemed to have found his lost form. Very enterprising at the midfield with great support to the attackers and defense, but still lack sharpness and vivacity when with the ball up front..

Landry Nguemo: He began slowly but steadily, he proved that he can be holding midfielder with a few through balls during the first half. Through out the second half he became more of a liability than an asset.

Benjamin Moukandjo: His first moves up front led to the Lions first corner kick. After the move, difficult he was nowhere to be found. Even to lend support to his team mates appeared to be for him through out the first half. He was seeing during the early minutes of the second half only when he committed a fault. His replacement was judicial for the team

Vincent Aboubakar: He was completely lost from the beginning to the end of the game and failed to capitalize the few balls he got up front. Thank God he now knows the World Cup is different from the French League.

Choupo Moting: Since the start of the competition, Maxim has not been the player we know. After a few fruitless attempts up front and a header from a corner kick, he went to

slumber. He was one of the most disappointed player in the team.

Salli Edgar: His coming in to place Moukandjo did not bring much life into the match as he was caged at the left flank through out the game. He even moved to the right flank and tried but none of his cross went through.

Pierre Webo: Just like Sally, the presence of Webo in place of Aboubakar did not benefit the Lions. Apart from running up and down the Brazilian defense line, he neither orchestrated nor kicked to the pool. He was deprived of juicy and meaningful passes.

Jean II Makoun: His coming in brought some life into the game. The few balls he touched were very enterprising but not good enough to scare the opponent.
