Bamusso Health Centres Receive Equipment, Drugs

They were handed over by the Mayor and administrative authorities over the weekend.

The esplanade of the Bamusso Council was over the weekend full to capacity with the population to witness the donation of hospital equipment, modern beds and medication to some health centres in the Bekomo, Boa Balondo and Bamusso localities of the municipality.

Handing the gifts on behalf of the council, Mayor Etonge Grace Bau Mbeng disclosed that the equipment and drugs were purchased for over FCFA five million by the council thanks to the left-over of funds offered the council by National Programme for Participatory Development (PNDP), last March, which advised councils to make good use of the funds rather than returning the funds to PNDP.

The Mayor observed that the health of the population is very important and health centres had become an eyesore in terms of the beds and lack of drugs. The provision of drugs is to curb the high rate of the consumption of roadside drugs which, as studies have shown have shown, are widely consumed by the maritime population while the equipment will make the health units attractive. Hence, she wished that people will no longer leave the area to go for medical attention elsewhere while urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment.

The Mayor later disclosed to the press that apart from the health concern, the Council has equally identified land in the “Njanga” (crayfish) area for the development of a Council farm that will help provide employment to the youth and generate income for the council since the proceeds will be marketed. She narrated that the council is counting on the collaboration of the chiefs in the Njanga area for this great dream to be realised.

Furthemore, the council has already elaborated a plan to link Bamusso with the mainland at Boa-Balondo Beach by road. FCFA 50 million is already at the disposal of the Governor of the South West Region for the project, she also disclosed. The Mayor also used the occasion  to hail the population for their constant support and equally called on them to contribute their own quota to the development of the municipality.
