Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Examines Bills

The two bills had already been adopted by the National Assembly.

The President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji during a plenary sitting of the House yesterday, June 26, 2014 presented two bills forwarded to the Senate by the President of the National Assembly.  The forwarding of the bills is in conformity with Article 30 of the Constitution which provides that, “A bill passed by the National Assembly shall be immediately forwarded to the President of the Senate by the President of the National Assembly” for  second reading.

The bills tabled yesterday and forwarded to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate were that to authorize the President of the Republic to ratify the agreement between Cameroon and Morocco on mutual encouragement and protection of investments, signed on 24 January 2007 at Rabat, Morocco.

The second bill was that to authorize the President of the Republic to accede to the Nagoya protocol on access to genetic resources and their fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from their utilization, adopted  on 29 October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan. The President of the National Assembly forwarded the bills on June 24, 2014.

The Foreign Affairs Committee was programmed to examine the bills later in the evening. This probably justified the presence of the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional, Development, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi and the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of the Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, Nana Aboubakar Djalloh during the plenary sitting. The Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Amadou Ali was also present.
