Interview: “Make Cameroon Tribune All-embracing”

Ni John Fru Ndi, SDF National Chairman, looks back at the 40 years of existence of Cameroon Tribune.

I offer special prayers for the success of Cameroon Tribune in the years ahead. I thank Cameroon Tribune for what they have covered so far. Perhaps, I should regret that the political party in power has enjoyed most of the coverage by Cameroon Tribune over the years.

I expect the paper to be a liberal Cameroonian tabloid that pays attention to all the aspects of society. Cameroon Tribune has indeed been seen to attempt to be so, but often,
the CPDM party takes centre stage in the paper while some of the write-ups ridicule the opposition.

Sometimes, the paper pays a lot of attention to people or so-called political leaders who are inconsequential, especially during political campaigns. Cameroon Tribune cannot pretend that they do not know who is who in the politics of Cameroon. The paper has its place in Cameroon’s media landscape but quite often, they laugh with water in their mouths.

They should improve and be more open to the other forces of society and become an all-embracing national and international newspaper.
