Germany Is World Champion!

They beat Argentina 1- 0 on July 13, 2014, at the Estadio do Maracana in Brazil to grab the 20th FIFA World Cup.

The German National team has won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The “Mannschaft” grabbed the trophy after beating the Argentina national team 1 – 0. The German goal was scored at the 113th minute by Mario Goetze after receiving a beautiful cross from Andres Schurrle at the left flank.

Under the auspices of Nicola Rizzoli, who became the third Italian to officiate a FIFA World Cup final, the encounter at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro in the presence of over 74, 738 spectators, began with a lot of intensity from both sides. Germany dressed in all white with black and red stripes and Argentina in blue and white stripes made their intensions known from the beginning with a series of beautiful combinations up front.

The last minutes of the first half witnessed a series of misses from Lionel Messi and major saves from the two goalkeepers Manual Nueuer and Sergio Romero.

The second half began on the same tune, with both teams orchestrating play at the flanks. Lionel Messi for Argentina and Philip Lahm for Germany drove in several through balls and triangular passes that were poorly exploited. As the minutes ebbed, the Argentinains visibly waiting for penalties, played more at the defense and proceeded through counter attacks until the blast of the referee’s whistle for the end of 90 minutes and extra-time.

During extra-time, Germany’s constant pressure paid off as Mario Goetze who came in for Miroslav Klose scored the first and wining goal for Germany. The goal forced the Argeninaians to mount pressure, but their attempts met with stiff resistance from a well coordinated and matured German team.

It is the 4th time the German national team is lifting the FIFA World Cup trophy after eighteen participations at the final phase of the competition. The first time they mounted the podium was in 1954. Since then, they have been navigation around the World Cup podium with two quarter-finals, runners-up once and twice the third-place position.
