Nibali Extends Tour Of France Lead

He now has a comfortable lead of 4’37” ahead of the runner-up in the 2014 race.

Vincenzo Nibali is on a good path towards winning the 101st edition of the world’s most popular cycling race, the tour of France.

Though he has not won any lap since the beginning of the race, the Italian who rides for Astana Pro Team now has comfortable lead of 4’37” ahead of his closest rival, Valverde Belmonte Alejandro of Movistar team from Spain who occupies the second position with a total time record of 61h57’31.”However, two French cyclists are turning the heat on the race leader and runner with Bardet Romain and Pinot Thibaut in the third and fourth positions respectively.

The 2014 edition of the race kicked off on July 5 for the 20th time in history out of France in Leeds-Britain and covers a distance of 3664 kilometres. The first three laps of the race were in Britain and the race caravan also passed through Belgium and Spain. The race enters the 16th lap tomorrow after the second and last day of rest today.

The race will end on July 27th with the last lap to take place between Evry and Champs Elyséé-Paris. It is worthy to note that Vicenzo Nibali is a surprise guest at the top of the race after the abandonment of Alberto Contador and Chris Froome who were considered favourites to win the race this year.
