Students from the Centre, South, East and North West Regions are enjoying tourist attractions while taking English and French lessons.
It took thirteen days for some 80 students from the Centre, South, East and North West regions to mix, learn and discover the touristic potentials of the North West region. The event was a holiday camp which emerged as a perfect forum to give the youths from different backgrounds a chance to mix, discover themselves and above all, integrate as youths of same nation.
Presbyterian Secondary School Bafut was the venue from where the students were early to rise daily in their quest to discover the beauty and specificities of the North West region. From 10 to 22 July, 2014, the students turned full circle with a timetable that featured group work, keep-fit activities, song and dance, storytelling, meditation, sports, animation and sports.
It was a rare moment for the students to discover the Bafut Royal Palace and its world heritage museum. From the far away Centre, South and East regions, the students were introduced to the land of Fons, best showcased by the royalty that emerged from the Bafut Palace and neighbourhoods. The neighbourhood of Mankon palace and its museum was another major discovery before their outing at Saddle hill in Bafut.
It was all about the Saddle Hill and Ranch in the seemingly endless acres of rolling hills, with a natural freshness. The environment offered breath-taking views and the openness of space, nicely complemented with vast terraces and winding footpaths. Boyo division; the home of the legendary Afo-a-Kom statue opened to the visiting students on July 18, 2014. It was a joy to discover the Ndawara highlands.
Their extensive highland tea farms, tea factory, rare species of animals, birds, snakes, climate and impressive scenery gave the students the impression that they were in “heaven on earth”. The Babungo Royal Museum in Ngoketungia division was another area attraction for the students before they went admiring the beauty of the Sabga Hill and neighbouring rocks, hills, waterfalls and the huge concentration of Muslims in Sabga.
