Sensitisation Against Extremism Intensifies

It began like a joke and now so serious that it leaves no one indifferent.

Be it in the northern part of the country where the shoe pinches or in down south where the shoe is still at its best, the fear is that of the growing threats to which the country is facing coming from the terrorist group. Cameroonians have become panic stricken with the growing insurgency orchestrated by the Boko Haram.

Political parties, civil society organisations, religious bodies, associations and Cameroonians of all walks of life strongly condemn their acts. The resolve now by political party leaders and activists is to sensitise Cameroonians as much as possible on the need to desist from the unhealthy group.

An alarming outing by the extremist came on Sunday July 27, 2014 in Kolofata, Far North Region when the home of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Amadou Ali came under fire by “inhumane and wicked” members of the Boko Haram.

The brutal attack did not end there but continued to the home of the Mayor of the locality who is also traditional ruler of the locality, Dr Seini Boukar Lamine. The zealots are said to have left 14 people dead, 17 others taken as hostages. Amongst the kidnapped is the wife of Amadou Ali, Françoise Agnès Moukouri and Mayor Boukar Lamine.

Sunday’s attack came on the heels of the imprisonment of 14 alleged Boko Haram members in Military Tribunal in Maroua on July 24. A series of attacks has been carried in the country by the group which is still holding 10 Chinese workers abducted in May. Sensitisation against the extremist group has therefore intensified as the Head of State said during a recent summit in France that war must be declared against the sect.
