Discussion, between First Ladies in Washington will tomorrow focus on health, education and investing in women amongst other things.
Cameroon’s First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya will tomorrow, August 6, 2014 during her stay in the United States Capital, Washington DC begin discussing subjects that are of great concern to her. As part of the historic three-day U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, the Office of the First Lady of the United States, the George W. Bush Institute and the U.S. Department of State will be hosting a US-Africa Spouse Summit with focus on the impact of investments in education, health, women and public-private partnerships. The gathering is built on the Bush Institute’s 2013 African First Ladies Summit, on the theme “Investing in Women: Strengthening Africa.”
Throughout the day of tomorrow Wednesday, August 6, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Washington DC, the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, former First Lady, Mrs Laura Bush, First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs Chantal Biya alongside some 30 other African First Ladies with leaders from non-governmental organizations; private sector partners; faith-based and grassroots organizations will address challenges and identify solutions to societal issues that primarily affect women and girls. The meeting will also highlight the critical role First Spouses play as advocates for women and girls and showcase success stories, best practices in public-private partnerships. Because of the verified significance of women’s inclusion, there are indications that panels during the come-together of the First ladies will lay emphasize on the importance of women and girls’ education, women’s health-specifically cancers, maternal and neonatal health and economic opportunity for women through entrepreneurship, technology and agricultural innovations.
The forum will provide a platform for The White House, the Bush Institute’s First Ladies Initiative, and Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon to highlight their work related to proven interventions for women and girls, and to announce new initiatives and partnerships which will lead to improved outcomes for women and girls on the continent of Africa. The US-Africa Spouse summit is therefore an opportunity for Cameroon’s First Lady, who is also UNESCO’s Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion to expand her scope. The gathering will be an excellent moment for Mrs Biya to spotlight her success story in effecting a change in people’s life. Through the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC), African Synergy Against AIDS and Suffering, Cameroon’s First Lady continued to put a smile on the faces of people in trouble through constant financial and material assistances.
