Education authorities of the region have finalised preparations for a smooth take-off of the 2014/2015 school year.

The South West Region like elsewhere in the country is poised for the effective start of the 2014/2015 academic year today, Monday 8th September, 2014. Authorities of Basic Education just like their counterparts of Secondary Education in the region have held sector conferences to ascertain the level of preparedness for the kick off.

Schools, on their part, have held their general staff meetings where timetables and didactic materials have been distributed to the teachers. Meanwhile, school campuses have been given new face-lift with minor renovation works carried out. While classrooms have been refurbished, school premises have also been cleared for effective classes to begin today.

At the level of the parents, last minute shopping of school requirements is the order of the day as many parents and school-going children could be spotted around shades that sell school items at the Muea market this Sunday. Meantime, some tailoring workshops CT visited over the weekend were as busy as a bee-hive in a bid to catch up with deadlines.

Meanwhile, anxiety is said to have gripped pupils and students as they look forward to hitting the road to their various schools this Monday. Even barbers’ shops are not left out in the preparation mood. When CT made rounds in some barbers’ shops yesterday, they were jammed to capacity as the youngsters want to appear neat with low haircuts in school.

According to the Vice Principal of Baptist High School (BHS) Buea, Ngomba Eric, a lot has been done for a smooth take off of the 2014/2015 academic year in the institution. He said the college has been refurbished, classrooms painted and toilets cleaned, amongst others.
