Cameroonian Cyclists Resume Duty

The national championship will take place this weekend between Yaounde and Ebolowa.

After the long recess since the last Tour of Cameroon due to intestinal quarrels within the federation, cyclists will resume activity this weekend with the national championship scheduled to take place between Yaounde and Ebolowa. According to the president of the cycling federation, Moustapha Dogo, the championship will be in preparation for the Grand Prix Chantal Biya expected to take place from October 15th to 20th.

The competition will be opened to regional champions from the different Regions of Cameroon and all cyclists from the Littoral and Centre Regions where cycling is widespread. The federation wants to put together a conquering team to represent Cameroon in the Grand Prix International Chantal Biya. A false kick off will be given at the 20th May Boulevard while the real kick off to the race will be at Messamendongo.

Meanwhile, elections in the Littoral Regional League took place on Saturday September 13 in Douala with Jacques Kuissi elected president. However, his election is being contested by the president elect from the annulled elections Albert Amoubep who has threatened to sue the federation once more at the Chamber of Arbitration and Conciliation of the National Olympic and Sports Committee. He claims he was unlawfully discarded and not all titular members of the general assembly were convened to the elective assembly.

However the new president of the Littoral League and national president of the federation claim the elections were conducted in strict respect for the statutes of the federation and all statutory members invited. Amoubep, they claim, is not a statutory member but a newcomer who wants to grab power at all cost. The next step according to the president of the federation, is organizing elections at the national level as was requested by the Olympic Committee and the International Cycling Union.

Moustapha Dogo said they have a calendar of activities they are following which began with the modification of the statutes of the federation, the adoption of the revised statutes by the ICU and the general assembly of the cycling federation and the last step will be the organization of elections at the national level. The elections will take place anytime between the 5th of October and the beginning of November, said the Secretary general of the federation, Brumo Elomo.
