The Director General of UNESCO bade farewell to Cameroon Tuesday night after a hectic visit.

The Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, left Cameroon all smiles Tuesday night after an understandably fruitful 48-hour visit to the country. At the Nsimalen International Airport, the UNESCO top official received all the honours due her position after a hectic day during which she held talks with the country’s top officials, evaluated the path covered by her institution and the State and charted the way forward for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Four cabinet ministers accompanied the UNESCO’s Director General to the presidential lounge of the airport from where she boarded her flight back to France through Equatorial Guinea. These were the Ministers of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, that of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, his college of Basic Education, Youssouf
Adjidja Alim as well as the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mounouna Foutsou alongside the Governor and other administrative authorities of the Centre Region.

After the airport formalities and brief airport discussions with some of the officials, Irina Bokova was served an album of her visit in Cameroon as she took leave of the country, hoping that the deal had been brokered for better cooperation between Cameroon and UNESCO. It was at 9:11 pm that the plane carrying the UNESCO official taxied off the tarmac of the airport under the watchful eyes of the senior officials who had turned up to wish the Director General well.
