Committee members met on Tuesday September 30, 2014 to select the best designs.

The competition for the 2015 International Women’s Day fabric design is on. Members of the committee to select the best design for the Women’s Day fabric in Cameroon began meeting on Tuesday September 30, 2014 in Yaounde to examine works submitted in contest for the selection of a model for the 2015 fabric.

Speaking at the opening, the President of the Committee, Emilia Nkamchor, who also doubles as the Inspector General at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, said they had received 27 designs from artists in the ten Regions of the country. They evaluated the proposed colours, messages they carried and the level of creativity put on the fabric.

Emilia Nkamchor said the proposals were made based on criteria such creativity, message, value given to women in their different domains of work and life, background and colour of the fabric. The creativity of the artist was rated at eight points, messages four points and the value the artist attached to women four points. The design and colour three and one point respectively.

At the end the committee selected best five winners from which their works will be put together to come out with the final design for the 2015 fabric. Prizes will be allocated to the winners in cash and in the form of the Women’s Day fabric. The committee is made up of members from the civil society, CICAM and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family and partner ministries
