New Vietnam Ambassador At Minrex

Vu The Hiep presented the advance copies of his Letters of Credence yesterday October 28. The visit of the new Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Cameroon, His Excellency Vu The Hiep, yesterday October 28, 2014, to the Ministry of External Relations, was twofold. The first was to present the advance copies of the Letters of Credence accrediting him. The second was to evaluate cooperation ties between the two countries.

The Minister of External Relations, Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, received his august guest for over an hour, during which he shared courtesies before dissecting ties between the two friendly countries. Cameron’s third mobile operator, Vietnamese-owned Nextell, has been in the country since December 14, 2012; the date it signed concession agreements with the government.

The 50-year-old Vu The Hiep, from 1989-1993, was Third Secretary in the Vietnamese Embassy in the former Soviet Union; and then Russia. In 1995, he rose to the position of Dean of the Faculty of History of International Relations and Vietnamese Foreign Policy in the Institute of International Relations. By 1999, he became the Deputy Director of the same school before being sent to Ukraine as Counsellor; the second high-ranking personality in the embassy.

Between 2003 and 2008, the Deputy Director of the Vietnamese Institute of International Relations became Academic Diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was then moved in 2009 to the Republic of Kazakhstan where he served as the Interim Chargé d’Affaires. The Hiep was the same year promoted to Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan. In May 2013, he was sent to Algeria from where he now also covers Cameroon.
