Council Textbooks, Fees for Needy Children in Fundong

0ouncil team crisscrosses 90 schools with support to enhance education in municipality.

The commitment of the Fundong Council to stand by needy pupils, students and schools of the subdivision has been saluted by inhabitants of the municipality.  In effect, the Mayor of Fundong Council, Awoh Ndang Denis was heralded when he recently went crisscrossing some 90 schools and colleges with scholarships for some 2,000 pupils and students. It took the Mayor some three weeks to cover the 32 villages of the municipality.

It was a rare moment to enhance the teaching and learning process in Fundong Subdivision where many pupils and students - most orphans and offspring of very poor parents - often drop out. The Mayor’s educational tour started in Akeh Village and later went visiting schools and colleges in Ajung, Achain, Aduk, Abuh, Baiso and Alim amongst others.

Besides the scholarships that featured 20 beneficiaries from each primary school and ten from each college, the new CPDM Mayor offered benches, computers and above all, English Language and Mathematics textbooks to Class Six pupils, many of whom had never seen any since enrolling for education. The educational tour also featured working sessions with elite and traditional leaders of respective villages during which the Mayor registered concerns to take development forward in the municipality.

Curtains dropped on the tour with a public hearing in Fundong during which the Mayor presented a balance sheet of his activities, one year after he rose to the helm of the council on October 16, 2014. He subjected himself to questions on the management of the council. He set records straight where there were clouds and told participants that the public hearing constitutes a new chapter in the promotion of communication to help inhabitants better monitor council activities. He was cheered for the initiative which many welcomed as a measure in transparency, accountability, summed up in good governance.
