Fake Soldier Arrested In Kumba

Police sources say he fraudulently collected money from people, promising them entrance into ENAM and other institutions.

Arrey Tambe Napoleon a.k.a. McBrown, 28, from Kembong in Manyu Division was arrested by elements of law and order in Meme Division on October 18. Information from the Police Charge Office in Kumba states that Arrey Tambe Napoleon who had been dismissed from the military corps due to indiscipline, still goes around with his military uniform harassing the inhabitants of Kumba.

Security sources said that he duped people while promising to send them or their children to the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) and other higher professional institutions in the country. According to the commissioner of the Police Charge Office, Wilson Elong Njumenjikang, the suspect Arrey Tambe Napoleon is a member of a notorious gang terrorising the town of Kumba and its environs.

His last operation was at Paradise Baptist Church Fiango where he duped Pastor Uboh Rene. He told the ‘Man of God’ to deliver him of some demonic spirits and later on requested FCFA 40,000 which the pastor gave. He returned some days later, appreciating the pastor's miraculous works. The impostor told the 'Man of God' that apart from being a soldier, he also helps to recruit youths into the army and requested some youths in the church to pay “tuition fees” in a certain account to get themselves recruited. It was then that the pastor sensed danger and alerted the police. After a manhunt by the police, Arrey Tambe was arrested.

The Commissioner said when asked where he got the uniform, the charlatan said he collected it from a friend who is a student in a military school in Muyuka. “He must have stolen the uniform because there is no such school in Muyuka. After his arrest, a search was conducted in his house. Many receipts of money collected from money transfer agencies possibly transferred to him by his victims were discovered,” the commissioner said.

As at press time, another fake soldier dressed in a BIR uniform and whose name CAMNEWS  got as Otu Avictus Okpa escaped the dragnet of the elements of law and order in Big Nganjo,  Mbonge Sub-division the weekend before.
