It ended with the individual championship over the weekend.

With the calendar year drifting to an end, many sports federations are wrapping up their activities. The latest is the Cameroon Table Tennis Federation which organised the national individual championship over the weekend to mark the end of the season. Speaking at the end of the competition which saw Tayim Mercy and Ngwe Emmanuel maintain their hegemony in the men’s senior and women’s senior categories, the president of the table tennis federation, Alfred Bagueka, said it has been a very positive season in that all the competitions earmarked this year were organised.

More so, four members of the federation benefitted from a coaching scholarship in China taking the count to eight the number of Cameroonians having benefitted from the Chinese scholarship. He promised that many will follow also announcing that there have been stride in the domain of refereeing with two Cameroonians who succeeded in the refereeing examination organised by International Tennis Association. He also disclosed that many young talents were detected thanks to the vulgarisation policy of the federation during which table tennis tables were distributed to some clubs.

He said the several competitions organised will serve as preparation for the upcoming Africa cup of Nations to take place in Khartoum-Sudan, though he said the tennis national team was in camp in view of the competition. He said the federation dreams of a specialised hall for the playing of table tennis as well as to increase the remuneration for laureates of competitions. He also announced the creation of a new tournament next year christened ‘family finals’ which will pit an athlete and parent against another athlete and his or her parent.
