Different national actors have been meeting in the capital Ouagadougou.
Leaders of opposition political parties, civil society, religious bodies, as well as traditional rulers have drawn up a draft transition charter whose final copy they had to adopt yesterday and forward to the military that had taken over control of the country with Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida at the helm since the resignation of President Blaise Compaoré.
The charter adopted by the civilian leaders defines the transition organs such as the Presidency, National Assembly and a transition government and their missions. The charter specifically provides for a 25-member cabinet whose composition has to take into consideration women, youth trade unions and Burkina Faso citizens in the Diaspora. The document proposes the creation of a National Reconciliation and Reforms Commission with the mission to restore and strengthen social cohesion and national unity. The proposed transitional period has to be 12 months that will culminate in the presidential and legislative elections in November 2015, RFI reported.
The military represented by Colonel Auguste Denise Barry briefly attended negotiation talks in Ouagadougou last Saturday. Before leaving, he said he came to encourage the talks and stated time constraints as reason for the departure of the military delegation. Colonel Auguste Denise Barry is cited as saying that the results of November 8 transition negotiations, as well as reflections carried out by other actors will be synthesized to enable them come out with a consensus document in the coming days.
