Cameroon Tribune, in a series, identifies priority projects that unveil government’s heightened attention for the welfare of the people.

That government continues to multiply investment projects in the Bakassi peninsular is not open to questions. Even the most acerbic critic of the government, will doff his hat and acknowledge that much has been done before and after August 14, 2013 when Cameroon took unreserved control of the peninsular.

For a firm grasp of facts, figures and realities on the field, Cameroon Tribune, for one week, combed the length and breadth of Bakassi and identified priority projects that unveil government's heightened attention for the welfare of the people.

During the field trip, the Divisional Delegate of MINEPAT for Ndian, Chief Fotsop Dominic Yenai Asaah, disclosed that from 2007 to 2014, the State has invested more than FCFA 30 billion in the five maritime Sub Divisions that make up the 50.000 populated Bakassi zone. They are Kombo Abedimo (headquarters Akwa), Kombo Itindi (headquarters Ngosso) and the three Sub Divisions bearing the names of their headquarters, namely; Isangele, Idabato and Bamusso.

We observed that government's investments cover some 18 Ministerial departments with the lion’s share going to Defense, Security, Education, Health, Fisheries , Mines and Water. If there is any project that has been unanimously hailed as a dream to come true, it is unarguably the grading of the Mundemba-Isangele –Akwa road which is the only access road into Bakassi from the main land.

Thought virtually impassable because of the erosive effect of heavy rainfall, the road however links three Sub Divisions of the peninsular namely Mundemba, Isangele and Kombo Abedimo. But this is not all that makes Bakassi tick. More in our special reports from Monday, November 10, 2014.
