His Excellency Benoit-Pierre Laramée was received by House Speaker, Cavaye Yeguié Djibril on Thursday.

The outgoing Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon, Benoit-Pierre Laramée has told the press that he is leaving Cameroon fulfilled at his three-year stay in the country in terms of invigorating cooperation between Cameroon’s Parliament and that of his country.

The Canadian Diplomat made the remark in Yaounde yesterday November 13, 2014, after holding farewell talks with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Cavaye Yeguié Djibril. Laramée was glad at the increased relationship between Canadian and Cameroonian Parliamentarians saying exchange visits have been the hallmark.

He said his tenure was focused on shifting relationship to a more economic dimension based on the values of democracy, rule of law and governance. He worked hard to redynamise ties with emphasis on the signing of an agreement on the protection of foreign investment which opens doors to Canadian economic actors to contribute to Cameroon’s emergence vision by investing in the country. This could only be achieved by staying close to the House speaker and other top government officials in ensuring accountability, he noted.

In three years, Laramée has had time to visit all the ten regions of the country, savour its cultural diversity, enjoy the people’s legendary hospitality and above all, its rich tourist destination. This, he came to the conclusion that Cameroon is really ‘Africa in miniature’, and to this, the Canadian High Commissioner finds it difficult leaving the magnificent country and its loving people.

He stressed that he was saddened on one hand leaving, but fulfilled of his achievements on the other. “I am quite happy at what we have achieved but I am not happy to leave,” Benoit-Pierre Laramée concluded.
