EU, Civil Society Evaluate South West Projects

The PASC third Steering Committee ordinary session held in Buea recently.

The Steering Committee of the Civil Society Strengthening Programme (PASC), the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) and the European Union (EU) on Monday 10, November 2014 held its third ordinary session in Buea. Drawn from the ten regions of Cameroon, the participants discussed the following: PASC mid-term review report, the process of capitalization of PASC interventions, the activities of the second PASC programme estimates that were to be implemented before 15 July 2014, amongst others.

Lukanda Bertin, PASC Manager, said the symposium is going to change the minds of people as civil societies and Common Initiative Groups are called upon to work hand in hand with the government in projects initiatives that will better the lives of citizens. To him, full participation will improve values like good governance, democracy and living standards.

After the Buea meeting, the team inspected some of its sponsored projects in Limbe. At Sail For Life, a CIG that produces sails (Heliculture) in large quantity, Cameroon Tribune gathered from Ndenge Pauline, President of the 15-man Group that they received FCFA 3.2 million from PASC  in 2013. With the funding, they had procured a water pump, constructed two ovens to dry snails, set up a snail restaurant and are increasing production which they market locally and overseas.

“Presently, Snail For Life have 600 snail seedlings in its farm. After six months, we harvest three 50 kilograms bag at a go with one bag costing FCFA 45,000,” Ndenge Pauline told CT.  At the Martin Luther Jr Memorial Foundation-Cameroon, the Co-founder, Christian Tanyi showcased their development activities through a power point presentation which has recorded success thanks to the assistance from PASC.
Stepanie Gantzer Houzel, Head of the European Union Delegation and sitting in for the European Union Ambassador said there has been FCFA 4.5 billion set aside by EU since 16 February 2011 for their cooperation with the Cameroon government. The third ordinary session of PASC Steering Committee held under the auspices of the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Yaouba Abdoulaye.
