Globe International: MPs Launch Cameroon Branch

Members of Parliament met at the National Assembly on November 29, 2014 for their Constituent General Assembly.

The Cameroon branch of Globe International (Global Legislators Organisation) has gone operational with its Constituent General Assembly holding. The meeting held in one of the commission halls of the National Assembly to chart the effective take-off of the climate-change oriented body.

The Coordinator of Globe Cameroun, Hon. Martin Oyono, said the organisation was coming to add its weight to other bodies that have been checking the nefarious effects of climate change. Hon. Oyono said Globe Cameroon was borne out of the desire to engage legislators to support national efforts and push for closer working relationship with Globe and the United Nations.

Legislators of Globe Cameroun will join their peers from other countries to lobby for workable legal frameworks in the management of climate change in Cameroon. Government, through the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, its partners and Globe Cameroon, will in future work towards better laws that can scale down the impacts of climate change, which have brought hunger and famine to many communities.

The Global Legislators Organization is made up of parliamentarians from over 60 countries. Only five African countries have joined the organization - Ghana, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Cameroon. Cameroon’s branch was created by House Speaker, Right Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, on September 15, 2014.
