Cycling Federation: Yossi Honoré Elected President

He was elected during the general assembly of the federation on November 29, 2014.

Yossi Honoré was finally elected president of the Cameroon Cycling federation during the general assembly of the federation which took place at the Conference hall of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education on Saturday, November 29. The incumbent, Bruno Eloumou was re-elected as secretary general while Modi François retained the post of treasurer.

Speaking shortly after his election, Honoré Yossi said he is going to work with everyone for the sake of cycling stressing that his election was legitimate as the quorum was attained by one hundred per cent, since the discontented members staged the walk out after they had began proceedings. “They are free to walk out,” he said saying they did so because they realized they were in the minority.

The discontent challenge the legitimacy of Yossi’s election as only 41 of the 68 delegates were present in the hall at the time of the election proper, hence claiming that the quorum was not attained. The dissenters led by Kameni John whose candidature was rejected evoke some irregularities such as not respecting the time limit for the deposit or validation of candidatures, validation of candidatures setting of the agenda of the meeting by the director of norms and monitoring of sports federations at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education in the place of the general assembly. Kameni has promised to challenge Yossi’s election at the International Cycling Union in Zurich.

According to the representative of the Ministry of sports and Physical Education, Toko Ekambi, delegates respected the statutes of the federation and expressed the wish that members should continue doing so. He urged the new executive bureau to accept differences and work for the development of cycling in Cameroon.

Yossi came up as a substitution candidate after the passing away of Moustapha Dogo. He is promising to give more financial assistance to regional leagues and develop other genres of cycling like VTT (velo tout terrain). He also wants to organize a championship that would span six days during which points will be allocated such as in tennis and cyclist with the highest number of points at the end of the season, is crowned champion.
