Kano Mosque Attack: Nigerians Raise Calls Against Boko Haram

Government, religious leaders and the population determined to fight the “common enemy.”

After Friday, November 28 attacks at the Mosque in the northern city of Kano in which more than 100 people were killed, Nigerians from across the board have heightened calls for a coalition to confront the common enemy, Boko Haram.

President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to “leave no stone unturned” in tracking down the perpetrators of the gun and bomb attack at the Kano Mosque during prayers. He urged the nation “to confront the common enemy,” BBC reported. President Jonathan has ordered the country's security services "to launch a full-scale investigation and to leave no stone unturned until all agents of terror undermining the right of every citizen to life and dignity are tracked down and brought to justice."

He called on relief agencies and medical personnel to deploy every possible effort to assist the injured, and the general public to heed the call for the donation of blood by the hospitals where the injured are being treated.

Kano’s Central Mosque where the attack took place is where the influential Muslim leader, the Emir of Kano, usually leads prayers. The bomb attacks widely believed to have been targeted at the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, comes on the heels of calls by the emir on citizens to defend themselves against Boko Haram. On Saturday, November 29, he visited the Mosque and said it must have taken at least two months to plan the attack.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over bomb attack. Its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said the party was grief-stricken. In solidarity with the people of Kano State, PDP postponed its State House of Assembly primaries that were to hold on Saturday and promised that the House will continue to support security agents, Leadership Weekend newspaper reported. Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) who is Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu  condemned the attack , encouraging that nobody should be intimidated by evil perpetrators as good will surely triumph over evil.
