Modification Of CAR Electoral Code Blocked

The plenary sitting in the National Transitional Council is yet to hold after several attempts.

Hustling and bustling is already perceptible across the political chest board in the Central African Republic  with the armed rebel movements; Ant-balaka and Seleka already being transformed into political parties in readiness for the June 2015 general elections announced by Transition President, Catherine Samba-Panza.

The mounting anxiety is however, attenuated in the acting Parliament, National Transitional Council where the draft electoral code submitted by government some days back for scrutiny is yet to be examined, Centrafrique Libre reported.  Two abortive plenary sittings of the Council had been programmed to scrutinize and adopt the draft electoral code. The National Transitional Council with Alexandre Ferdinand Ngeundet as President explained that the failure of the first plenary sitting was due to lack of a quorum and the second one did not hold for procedural reasons.

Informed sources, Centrafrique Libre reported, explained that there is a dysfunction in the National Transitional Council stemming from the handling of the file on the supposed gift of Angola to help the transitional government in the Central African Republic. Some members of the Council are said to have distanced themselves from the Bureau of the Council accusing its members of having taken decisions without informing the entire House. Reports say some of Council members now oppose its bureau accusing it of several shortcomings.

A member of the Council who requested for anonymity is said to have told news agencies that the debate on the electoral code cannot take place because the members are unhappy with the bureau and President of the National Transitional Council who take decisions without consulting the entire House. The member said they no longer want to be used to endorse decisions that have already been taken, some of which are taken out of the Central African Republic.
