The third ordinary session for 2014 ended on Thursday, December 11, 2014.
The Senate has felicitated government for taking prompt measures to prevent the Ebola epidemic from spreading to the country. Speaking yesterday, December 11, 2014, at the Yaounde Conference Centre while closing the 2014 third ordinary session of the Senate, its President, Marcel Niat Njifenji, commended the clear-sightedness with which government handled the threat, thus saving Cameroon from the deadly epidemic.
The plenary sitting was attended among others by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril and Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang. Talking about Boko Haram incursions into the Far North Region, Niat Njifenji said the bills passed during this session will enable government better tackle the threat. He pointed out that terrorism was criminal, warning that its accomplices will have no hiding place in Cameroon. He reiterated Senate’s full support for government’s efforts in fighting the anti-terror war.
Earlier, the Senate adopted the 2015 Finance Bill, which stands at FCFA 3,746 billion. Responding to questions by senators after the reading of the report of the Senate Finance and Budget Committee, the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, said public investments already stand at over 30 per cent of the State budget, midway into the implementation of the Strategy Paper on Growth and Employment, DSCE. He promised that the project log book will be available as from January 1, 2015, to ease work for contractors.
On the other hand, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o, assured the House that government has made adequate provision in next year’s budget to pursue the war against Boko Haram. He added that discussions were underway with partners for more support, promising that the anti-terror war will be intensified until the insurgents are completely defeated. The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, disclosed that this year’s funding of eligible political parties was paid on November 4, 2014. The amount stood at FCFA 1.5 billion.
