Liquefied Petroleum Gas Use: Gov’t Partners With International Firm

govt-partners-international-firmWater Resources and Energy Minister and Global LPG Partnership signed a MoU on Thursday December11, 2014.

The government of Cameroon has gone into partnership with a New York-based firm, Global LPG Partnership, in view of extending and promoting the use of liquefied petroleum gas in the country. Water Resources and Energy Minister, Basile Atangana Kouna and the Chairman, Operating Committee, Global LPG Partnership, Alex W. Evans, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect in Yaounde on Thursday December 11. Both officials announced during the ceremony that the aim of the partnership is to encourage the use of the cooking gas across the country. The American firm will carry out technical studies and source for financing in view of transforming the dream to reality.

They said Cameroon has gas potentials amounting to about 7.786 billion cubic feed almost unused as 86 per cent of domestic gas in the country is imported and subsidized by the State at huge sums of scarce FCFA which could have otherwise been pumped into other productive sectors of the economy. Liquefied petroleum gas, they said, is clean source of energy, non-polluting and cost-effective.

Within the framework of an announced construction of a chemical fertilizer plant in the South West Region, stakeholders of the project say the treatment of natural gas from the Etinde reserves could allow for the recuperation of about 36,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum domestic gas annually by 2018. Another project to construct a liquefied natural gas plant in the North Region by 2021 could produce 250,000 of liquefied petroleum gas. Through the MoU signed with government therefore, Global LPG Partnership undertakes to sensitise the population on this form of energy as well as ensuring the successful extension and use of the innovation across the country.govt-partners-international-firm
