Presbyterian Church in Cameroon: Bastos Congregation Bids Moderator-Elect Farewell

Rev. Samuel Fonki Forba was sent off by Christians in a church service on December 28, 2014.

A special church service to bid farewell to Rev. Samuel Fonki Forba took place at the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) Bastos Church on Sunday December 28, 2014. Presbyterian Christians from Cameroon and abroad thronged the church premises to praise and thank God for choosing Rev. Samuel Fonki Forba to serve him. It was equally the last church service for Rev. Samuel Fonki as the Parish Pastor of PCC Bastos Congregation and Presbyterial Secretary of the East Mungo North Presbytery.

In his last sermon, Moderator-elect, Rev. Samuel Fonki Forba, said it was difficult to say goodbye. Drawing from the book of 2 Kings 2:9-14 in the Bible, Rev Fonki likened his parting to the story of the prophets Elijah and Elisha who worked in God’s vineyard. When Elijah was taken up to heaven by the whirlwind, he left behind his clock. Frustrated, Elisha cried to the God of Elijah of Elijah. With this, he said, God is fulfilled yesterday, today and forever. He said during the past 17 months spent in PCC Bastos congregation and the East Mungo North Presbytery, he learnt from the congregation and the East Mungo North Presbytery has accompanied him like Elijah. Rev. Fonki said the PCC is stepping into a season when the Lord will open new good treasures and bless his people, where the downtrodden will be lifted high and that God’s fruitful ministry will continue. He prayed that God will fill the Christians with beautiful love and PCC Bastos will remain a strong parish.

Elders Forsap and Gladys Viban hailed the Moderator-elect for bringing innovations into the PCC Bastos church, such as introducing communion services on Sundays, healing services, bringing financial growth and growth of the church to 5,000 members, among others. The Christians urged him to carry on with his qualities of dynamism, humility and simplicity to bring about a strong Presbyterian Church in Cameroon. Rev. Samuel Fonki Forba will be succeeded by the Rev. Emmanuel Masock as the new Parish Pastor of PCC Bastos Congregation.
