Douala I Rewards Cleanliness

Bali neighbourhood and Mboppi market received first prizes recently.


It was during a heavily attended and colourful ceremony organised by the Douala I council, that the “Bali” neighbourhood and the Mboppi market were pronounced winners of the competition of the cleanest neighbourhood and the healthiest market in the municipality. Each winner received a cash prize of FCFA 300,000 and work material including wheelbarrows, brooms, rages and a tricycle.

On the cleanest neighbourhood category, Bonateki and Bonantonè grabbed the second and third prizes of FCFA 150,000 and FCFA 100,000 respectively as well as work material and a motorcycle each. Marché de Femmes and Marché New Deido came second and third in the cleanest market category, receiving cash prizes of FCFA 150,000 and FCFA 100,000 respective. They were also handed a motorcycle each and work material to enable them maintain the cleanliness. Prizes were also given to the most beautiful public garden and the most dynamic association of the council area. Close to 90 associations that registered for the competition from the three main zones that cover the municipality- the Akwa, Bell and Deido townships, received participation prizes.

During the prize award ceremony, the Mayor of Douala I council, Lengue Malapa said the cleanest markets, neighbourhoods and public gardens are found in the Douala I municipality. Like the Divisional Officer for Wouri, Jean Marc Ekoa Mbarga, the Mayor enjoined all-and-sundry to put in more effort in order to remain the best.
