France: Wave Of Violent Killings Rocks Paris

France is living through a traumatizing period following the killing of a municipal Policewoman in Montrouge, the southern suburb of the capital, Paris on Thursday, January 8, 2015, just a day after suspected Islamist militants killed 12 people at the office of the satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. A second person on Thursday’s shooting was seriously injured after which the gunman fled, BBC reported.

The French Minister of Interior Bernard Cazeneuve who was attending a meeting at Elysée immediately rushed to the scene of the incident and declared that the perpetrator was on the run, RFI reported. A 52-year-old man was however arrested.  Bernard Cazeneuve said the State Counsel will launch an immediate search for the killer to be identified and arrested for investigations to pursue in the shortest time possible.

Concerning the Charlie Hebdo massacre, Police have made seven arrests in the hunt for two brothers, Cherif and Said Kouachi, the main suspects.  Reports said the third suspect surrendered.

In another development, Cherif and Said Kouachi, the two main suspects in the attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris are said to have robbed a service station in the north of France. They stole food and petrol, firing shots as they struck at the roadside stop near Villers-Cotterets in the Aisne region, French media reports said.

The manager of the service station that was robbed on the RN2 road in Aisne said the attackers fit the description of the two men, and were heavily armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.  They reportedly drove off in the direction of Paris in a Renault Clio car, apparently the same vehicle hijacked in Paris soon after the Charlie Hebdo attack. The French commercial channel BFMTV is reported to have said that the police are monitoring all of the main entry roads into the capital.attentat-france-rue
