The men of the underworld were arrested by elements of the Central Police Station Number One on January 5, 2015 in Yaounde.

The members of two notorious gangs of bandits in the Briqueterie neighbourhood in Yaounde are in police custody. The bandits were arrested by elements of the Central Police Station Number One on January 5, 2015 and presented to the public on Thursday January 8, 2015. The first gang was made up of three bandits - Garba Aboubakar, 28, mechanic; Ousman Hassan, 38, praise singer and Mouctar, 27, mechanic. The gang was alleged to operate between the Polyclinic Tsinga and Dubaï Tsinga areas.

Reports say the red-coloured Toyota Starlet with number plate CE 898 CO, was stolen in front of Christ Roi Chapel in Tsinga at 9:00 a.m. After investigations, the police were able to lay hands on the gang leader, Garba Aboubakar. According to the reports, Garba Aboubakar was responsible for stealing the vehicle using a fake key.

Garba Aboubakar was caught by the police on January 5, 2015 at the area called Grande Mosquée in the Briqueterie neighbourhood while he was trying to sell the car. Tracing back his misdeeds, the police was able to find another stolen vehicle; a taxi with the number plate CE 049 EL which was stolen in the night of January 1, 2015.

In the second case, police elements nabbed a notorious thief also named Aboubakar Garba, 27, who it was alleged, was specialised in seizing women’s handbags using a sharp knife. He was said to have escaped from the Yoko Prison and that he had been in prison several times.

Senior Police Inspector, Aboubakar Garba said since he was arrested two weeks before, the Briqueterie neighbourhood was calm. The bandits were expected to be taken to court on Friday January 9, 2015. Some of the neighbours in Briqueterie wished that Aboubakar Garba be given a long prison sentence so that the neighbourhood can be in sustained peace.
