Bonapriso, Douala: Traffic Flow Resumes

An electric pole and transformer that collapsed Sunday blocking road was removed on January 13, 2015.

Inhabitants of Bonapriso around the “Chefferie” area and users of the Ngangue-Bonapriso stretch now heave a sigh of relief with the removal and reinstallation of the transformer and an electric pole which collapsed Sunday January 11, 2015. Smooth flow of traffic could be noticed yesterday, January 13,  in the afternoon.

Circulation difficulties such as commuters having to trek over long distances to board taxis to their place of work kept many sighing over delays by the power utility corporation, Energy of Cameroon (eneo), to clear off the pole. Insecurity and electrocution as commuters crossed over the fallen pole and electric cables raised some fears of costly damages.

Losses like foodstuff in storage systems were recorded with the prolong blackout caused. “All the fresh food stored in my fridge went bad, talk less of my musical set,” Jean Clement told Cameroon Tribune. According to some inhabitants, the pole collapsed on its own. A technician working to reinstall the equipment said the failure was related to age and environmental factors.
