Supporters of the team are stimulating up in the Regional capital to live AFCON 2015.

Football lovers in the South West Regional capital, Buea, are impatiently waiting for next Saturday when the kick-off for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled in Equatorial Guinea.

The Cameroon team embarks on the expedition enjoying rekindled hopes from its fans thanks to the recent restructuring of the group and the series of won or drawn international matches without losing any. While many fans in Buea are thinking of the Equato-Guinean rendez-vous as promising to wipe the tears of the must-forget participation of Cameroon at the last Brazilian world cup, moderates are holding to their breath to see before they believe. Even so, hyper-hopefuls are already having a bet for the cup.

However, it is evident in the streets, taxis, homes and bars in Buea that people are already tuned to the competition. From the shouts and jeers emitted by spectators in Buea during the preparatory friendlies pitting Cameroon with RDC Congo and later South Africa, it is clear that most ears are turned to Equatorial Guinea come the beginning of hostilities Saturday. The fans are properly informed of Cameroon’s entering into the scene only next 20 January.

The major fear in Buea remains the epileptic power supply which is worsening by the day. In Bomaka, for example, low voltage is currently being decried by inhabitants where many electrical bulbs especially the long fluorescent bulbs do not just glow.

While the fans are budgeting for their match viewing sprees over a beer, the bar owners are busy stocking drinks for the busy the moment. Supporters, on such occasions, cluster in Muea, Molyko, Bunduma, Great Soppo, Clerks’ Quarters just to mention a few. During crucial matches involving Cameroon, the streets usually run dry with taxis parked by the corners of the road and drivers watching their match in bars. Commuting is usually difficult until the match is ended.
